DescriptionDescription: In the summer of 1779, several busts of Gustav III and other members of the royal family were among the first things Sergel started on his return to Sweden. Over a year later, when the sculptor summarised his work on these portraits, he said: “I hope that there will be an end to these busts, unless it also necessary to sculpt the queen dowager”. And it was: this portrait mask was cut from the clay model for the plaster bust.
