DescriptionDescription: Numbered at lower right in pen and brown ink: 65 (struck out) and, covered by the mount, 811 (Sparre) Verso: Long inscription (illegi ble) Knowledge of Antonio Carracci's draughtsmanship is very scant, in recent years limited to a 1993 article by Carel van Tuyll van Serooskerken in Master Drawings and a contribution by Clovis Whitfield to the Festschrift for Denis Mahon. Our drawing was identified by van Tuyll as a study of a painting by the artist formerly in the Villa Montalto Peretti, Rome (1616). The drawing is a rare documented exemple of the artist's highly refined style, comparable to a sheet in Munich, which shows a similar use of white heightening. [Bjurström, It.
