DescriptionDescription: Foxing down right side. Laid down. Numbered: 38 (struck out) in pen and black ink in lower right corner. Numered: 1023 in pen and black ink in lower right corner (Sparre). On verso on lining in pen (Tessin): Jean Francois Bolognese The facial features of the shepherd in the foreground recur in a number of drawings by Agostino, often in a caricatural context. One of these drawings, in the Oppé collection, is dated October 26th, 1594. Another drawing, in the Ellesmere collection, is datable to c.1595-97, being related to Annibale's lost Adoration of the Shepherd of that date [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 1424]
