DescriptionDescription: For Stockholm’s 750th anniversary, Bruno Ehrs portrayed the city’s most prominent residents in his series The Embrace. They are all represented as equal members of society. Not even Carl XVI Gustaf ’s strict and impeccable dress distinguishes him from the rest, though his unconventional, half-seated pose does contribute to the paradoxical character of the portrait. That feeling is reinforced by the knowledge that a king can be stage-managed, but not the swan gliding into the frame.
