DescriptionDescription: Numbered in pen and brown ink at lower right: 69 (struck out), on the old mount: Cabinet de Crozat (Tessin) and 1388 (twice; Sparre) A sketch for a painting that used to be in the Palazzo Geirola, Genoa, now lost but known from a description from 1768. Cambiaso had painted frescoes on the facade of the palace and Ratti considered that it was one of these which had been transferred to a ceiling inside the building. There are two other drawn versions of this composition. As our sheet is squared, it was probably the final version, prepared for transfer to the wall. According to Ratti, the painting was done by Cambiaso in his youth. These drawings, however, represent a later phase in this artist's development. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 310]
