DescriptionExhibition text: On six occasions in the summer of 1674, theatrical performances, dinners, fireworks, and other entertainments were arranged to celebrate Louis XIV’s conquest of Franche-Comté. For midnight supper on July 28th , a table laid with confections was constructed on the Cour de Marbre, the innermost courtyard of the palace at Versailles. At the center of the table stood a fountain, large volutes, and a column made up of hundreds of candles, crowned by the French fleur-de-lis.
