DescriptionDescription: In 1901 the artist couple Olle Hjortzberg and Elin Andersson were in Rome, on one stage of a study tour lasting several years. Hjortzberg’s rendering of his wife is clearly inspired by the profile portraits of the early Italian Renaissance. The painting is also of interest as a depiction of an artist couple, with the foreground dominated by the wife, while the husband is half-hidden in the background. He is the one, though, who meets the viewer’s gaze.
