DescriptionDescription: The artist’s own thoughts, for the exhibition Expressions in Glass 2019 The work on display was made for my separate exhibition “Glass and Stone” at the Orrefors Gallery in Stockholm in 1989. It is unique as there is only one example, as is the case for nearly everything I made for Orrefors from 1983 until 1990. Exceptions were made on two occasions, when the Orrefors Gallery 88 and Gallery 90 were launched and limited editions were made of selected objects from all of the glassworks’ designers. Unlike most of the others working for the glassworks and the studio workshops, I did not view my work as decorative glass art but rather as sculptures, works of art with no specific purpose other than conceptual description at times and pure exploration of the subconscious ur-forms at others. I had several exhibitions on themes that touched on the encounter between philosophy and quantum physics (which is where this sculpture belongs), the possibilities at the time of the nascent internet and their relationship to my own thoughts about the collective consciousness, and simpler phenomena such as my interest in house music. I had my sculptures made in glass as the production techniques were something that I was fascinated by, had mastered and I enjoyed being able to rebel against them rather than make beautiful objects in glass. Working as a designer and artist with glass is very special as, when one works at the advanced level I was at, one is totally dependent on sound collaboration similar to the symbiosis between a skilled glassblower and glass cutter. I had the luck to be working during a time when interest in advanced glass art was greater than ever before or since, and above all when the craftsmanship of Swedish glass workers was at its peak, which also means, unfortunately, that today it would be totally impossible to recreate most of my works.
