DescriptionDescription: Abraham-Louis Breguet was the most innovative and famous clockmaker in his day. He started his workshop in Paris in 1775. His first invention was the self-winding watch. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, along with other European royalty, were among his customers. He is estimated to have manufactured some 17,000 clocks before his death in 1823. His technical innovations were copied all over Europe. Even his signature was forged by less scrupulous clockmakers. The movement is sophisticated for the period, showing hours, minutes, seconds and the date.
