DescriptionDescription: The vase was part of a gift from the French state to Nationalmuseum in 1885, on the occasion of its opening a section for arts and crafts, One of the purposes of the section was to show good examples and to spread knowledge of quality and good taste. Additional texteDescription: The applied art collection of the Nationalmuseum was founded in 1885. That year the French Republic presented the museum with seven vases from Sèvres. This is the most spectacular. It shows that the factory at Sèvres could design, cast and decorate large, complicated objects in porcelain. The creative form of the vase both looks to the past and announces the future. The strict norms of historical and traditional motifs are adhered to. At the same time, there is a freedom and fluidity that anticipates art nouveau.
