DescriptionDescription: Red chalk, point of brush in grey, brown and grey wash, 132 x 118 mm. No watermark. Chain lines: 25–27 mm. Inscribed at the bottom, Rimbrant., and numbered in the lower right corner 1878 (Sparre) and 42 (struck out), in pen and brown ink. Mark of the Royal Collection (Lugt 1638). Kruse justified his attribution to Maes by a comparison with a similar drawing in Berlin. Sumowski dates these drawings to c. 1655. [Magnusson, Dutch Drawings no. 253]
