DescriptionDescription: In a radio programme in 1963, Astrid Sampe talked about Hammarskjöld’s involvement. Together they agreed that each continent would be represented by a kind of wood, North America by pine, Europe by oleander, Asia by cypress, Africa by olive and Australia by eucalyptus. This was neutral symbolism but also echoed Hammarskjöld’s passion for outdoor life. According to Sampe, it was the Secretary-General who specified the 14 shades of green for the rugs.
