DescriptionDescription: Depicting a red poppy on a white vase was a difficult process. First, molten white glass was gathered on a blowpipe, then a layer of red. After that, the gather was blown to the desired shape. When the glass had cooled, red glass was cut away to form the poppy in relief. The Daum brothers created elegant art glass using an overlay technique known as cameo glass. Their workshop was in Nancy, a centre of modern glassmaking. Outlets for its glass included the Maison de l’art nouveau in Paris.
