DescriptionDescription: This tankard is one of the few utilitarian objects of silver to have been preserved from the Vasa court. The inscription “Johannes Dux Ostrogothiae” on the lid and the crowned coats of arms show that it belonged to Duke Johan of Östergötland. He was the son of John III and Queen Gunilla Bielke. Duke Johan was granted his dukedom in 1606 and died in 1618. The coronation medal of Charles XI, engraved by the medallist Arvid von Karlsteen in 1675, was later mounted on the lid.
