DescriptionDescription: Graphite, pen and brown ink, brown wash, the angel and Abraham reworked in a different ink, 104 x 119 mm. Ruled framing lines in brown ink. The drawing is strangely pale, as if the ink has soaked into the paper. The head of the angel, Abraham’s features and a few other pen strokes have a warmer hue and might be later additions to strengthen the drawing. Laid down. Numbered in the lower right corner, in pen and brown ink, 1831 (Sparre) and 87 (struck out). Isaac, lying on his side with his hands tied in front of him, seems to be a grown youth rather than a small boy. The figure is similar to that in an anonymous school drawing in the collection (entry no. 357). The present drawing is difficult to judge, as the ink has somehow been absorbed into the paper, and the heads in particular have been retouched. Sumowski dates it to 1665–70.
