DescriptionDescription: The captive warrior, or Viking, was a recurring subject in both the Icelandic sagas and in 19th century art inspired by Old Norse narratives. Such captives were often held as thralls and they formed a central part of the social economy of the Old Norse tradition. Even Nordic warriors could be forced into thraldom and their families could be broken up, as was the case with the Norwegian king Olav Tryggvason who was captured and sold into thraldom for some years during his childhood.
