It is missing along the bottom, where the toes of the right foot, part of the inscription and the collector’s mark have also been cut away. Laid down. Inscribed in the lower right corner, in black chalk, Begga f. Mark of the Royal Museum (Lugt 1638). Inscribed on the old mount, in pen and brown ink, 120 (struck out) and 1848 (Sparre). Inscribed on the verso, in brown ink, Begga. Bega made numerous studies of models like this, which found use in his paintings. The parallel hatching that brings out the folds of the dress is characteristic. Similar studies in this manner of young female models exist in the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin, and the Louvre.
