DescriptionDescription: When Ingrid Dessau arrived in New York in the 1950s, spectacular modernisation was underway, for example to build steel and glass skyscrapers along Park Avenue, and the UN headquarters. This inspired her to weave an evening view of Manhattan, with people silhouetted against shop windows. Pre-industrial weaving meets modern architecture to striking effect as the buildings’ structures are like the warp, and the windows resemble the pattern of the weave.
