DescriptionDescription: Numbered in pen and brown ink at lower right: 407 (Sparre) The attribution to Nebbia was first made by J. Gere and confirmed by Ph. Pouncey. The foreground corresponds closely, although not in every particular, to the lower part of an altarpiece once in the cathedral of Orvieto, now in the Museo del Duomo. In the painting the number of figures by the fireplace and around the bed has been augmented, the bed made more elaborate and with angels hovering above it. The painting was executed in Rome in 1582. Additional related drawings are catalogued by Eitel-Porter. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 491]
