DescriptionDescription: Lower corner damaged. Numbered on the mount: 10 (struck out) and 252 (Sparre). Inscribed on the mount in reddish ink "RAFFAELE" The vigorous hatching, combined with areas just outlined and undefined details (such as the birds' feet), is reminiscent of the drawing of the Kingfisher in the British Museum, usually considered a copy but accepted by Nesselrath. The summary treatment of the bird's claws is similar to the previous bird studies. The drawing has some of the vitality of the acanthus scrolls in the Vatican Logge. Similar motifs can be found in the so-called Raphael Sketchbook in the Earl of Leicester's collection at Holkham Hall (MS 701, fol. 24) [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 460]
