DescriptionDescription: Inscribed in pen and brown ink: Schizzo de mano de Federigo de Urbino z 16. Numbered at lower right in pen and brown ink: 347. (Sparre) and 160. Olsen connects this drawing with a lost painting representing "The Virgin with the Child, St. John and St. Elizabeth", probably mentioned in an inventory from 1689 of Corte Basso at Fossombrone. Olsen suggests that a drawing of the Holy Family in the Louvre might be a preparatory study for the painting. Its Mannerist style indicates an early date and that the painting was executed in Rome in the mid 1550s. Our drawing might be a study for the head of the Infant Christ [Bjurström, It.
