DescriptionDescription: A rya is a woven fabric with a long-knotted pile. Ryor have existed in the Nordic countries since the Middle Ages, and were originally bed covers used with the pile facing down. Viola Gråsten renewed the rya, creating bold and vibrant rugs and tapestries with the pile turned outwards. Jam-Jam is a jazzy, humorous rya reminiscent of an African mask or animal hide. In the 1950s rya rugs became a typical feature of interiors described as Scandinavian modern.
