DescriptionDescription: The case of this clock was made by David Roentgen, Europe’s leading cabinetmaker in the second half of the 18th century. He liked to equip his furniture with surprising mechanisms, such as self-opening drawers or unfolding music stands. The musical mechanism of this clock, which plays hourly or every three hours, has ten interchangeable cylinders, providing a total of 40 tunes. The marquetry decoration, a chinoiserie motif inspired by François Boucher, is executed with detailed precision.
