DescriptionDescription: Laid down. No inscriptions Babette Bohn recognizes both the figure types and the use of wash as characteristic of Ludovico. The attribution to Ludovico is further confirmed by Gail Feigenbaum, Clare Robertson and Nicholas Turner. Both the composition and the Christ Child as well as the inclusion of the donors at lower right are close to the Bargellini Madonna of 1588 in the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna. Bohn, however, rejects the idea that this was an early sketch for the altarpiece and suggests that it was probably made for a lost or never executed painting [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 1445]
