DescriptionDescription: The opera Gustav Wasa was written by Gustav III, the librettist was Kellgren and composer was Johan Gottlieb Naumann. It was first performed in 1786 at Stockholm’s opera house. Its staging was probably one reason why Gustav III wanted Desprez to come to Sweden after they met in Rome in 1784. Desprez’ original for the scenography shows Gustav Vasa’s people’s army storming the palace, where the Danish banner has been replaced by the Swedish one.
