DescriptionDescription: Inscribed in brown ink at lower right: Fra Filippoino and 3. On mount in brown ink along lower edge: fra filippo Lippi * nato in firenze l'anno 1381 * padre di filippo Lippi. Verso: Black chalk-based wash with black chalk doodles on pink-brown prepared paper This study from life is tentatively dated by Carmen Bambach to the time of the Carafa Chapel murals (1488-93) rather than to the mid 1480s as has been previously proposed. She further compares it with a preliminary study in metal point for the Cumaean Sibyl in the Carafa Chapel in S. Maria sopra Minerva in Rome. Filippino obviously studied the figure from life, probably from a "garzone" posed in the studio. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 1038]
