Other titlesTitel (sv): Herkules, Nessus och Deianeira samt, på ett annat papper, en Herm som pekar på en man i strid med en centaur Titel (en): Hercules, Nessus and Deianera. Herm pointing to Priapus in combat with a centaur

DescriptionDescription: The drawings with the scene with the centaur, Priapus and the herm inserted on a separate piece of paper, 13.2 x 14.7, below. Its upper right corner restored by Vasari. Decorative framework by Vasari. These drawings are mounted on the back of Domenico Ghirlandaio no. 1065 from the Vasari album with his mount. The depiction of Hercules stringing a bow is a close rendering of a drawing in Berlin by a florentine artist, probably emanating from Antonio Pollaiuolo´s painting "Rape of Deianeira" in Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven. This drawing is attributed to Bambach to the Workshop of Filippino Lippi. The rendering of Hercules is also reminiscent of a sheet in the British Museum representing Hercules and the Hydra. The drawing of a Herm pointing to Priapus in combat with a centaur is executed after a sarcophagus now in the Vatican Museum and by Shoemaker considered a work by Filippino himself, a characteristic example of his more finished studies, executed in the studio after a freer sketch made directly after the sarcophagus.
