DescriptionDescription: When Fredric Westin painted this group portrait, the Bernadotte dynasty was secure on the Swedish throne and widely accepted. There is a family feel to it, rather than the sense of a political manifestation, but it is not as private individuals that the royal family have taken up their positions in Gustav III’s Pavilion at Haga. Discreetly placed in half-shadow is a bust of Charles XIII, the adoptive father who laid the foundations for the dynasty’s legitimacy – a bust that was not actually to be found in this room.
