DescriptionDescription: Maria Eleonora has been described as mentally un- stable or even hysterical. The French diplomat Charles Ogier, on a visit to Stockholm in 1634, offers a different picture of the queen, finding her beautiful and artistically gifted. Ogier describes a picnic on Kungsholmen, the site of a planned country palace. He is reminded of the Aeneid, “where Dido presents her plans to Aeneas”. This fits in with the image of the queen as Diana, seen here.
