Additional texteExhibition text: Carl Milles lived in Paris in 1897- 1905. He was invited to Meudon several times by Rodin, who, according to Milles, asked him to be his assistant. The two artists continued their correspondence for years after Milles returned to Sweden, and it was thanks to Milles that the Nationalmuseum bought its first works by Rodin.
Milles was deeply influenced by Rodin in his early years. This portrait of the architect Ferdinand Boberg (1860–1946) reveals a strong understanding of the material – the face seems to emerge from the roughly-shaped base.
