Beskrivning: I ett av sina tolv stordåd lyckades Herkules dräpa hydran som hade åtta huvuden och bodde i ett träsk. Hydrans andedräkt var förgiftad och spred död. För varje avhugget huvud växte det ut två nya. Herkules medhjälpare och brorson Iolaos brände därför såren så att inga huvuden skulle växa ut. Här står hjälten till höger och Iolaos till vänster. I bakgrunden bränns odjuret på bål.

Beskrivning: In one of The Twelve Labours of Hercules, he succeeded in killing the Lernaean Hydra, who had eight heads and lived in a swamp. The breath of the Hydra was poisoned and deadly. For each head that was cut off, two new ones grew out. Hercules’ assistant and nephew Iolaos burned the wounds so that no heads would grow. Here we see the hero to the right and Iolaos to the left. In the background, the beast is burned on fire.
