DescriptionDescription: Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie has to take a step down, as he is outranked by his wife, Princess Maria Eufrosyne, the sister of the future Charles X Gustav. The difference between them is also underlined by the fact that the whole of her gown is of gold cloth, while her husband’s costume is black with gold trim. The plants allude to fertility and the little dog to fidelity. The artist Münnichhofen came from the Netherlands and entered De la Gardie’s service.
