DescriptionDescription: Bernhard Palissy (1510–c. 1590) was fascinated by ceramics and glazes, experimenting intensely with different clays and formulating new glazes over many years. He worked with dishes and other objects that he decorated with lizards, snakes, fish, insects, shells, leaves and stones, carefully observing nature and making casts of his models. His pieces are very rare. Palissy had many imitators, of which these dishes are examples.
