DescriptionDescription: The French-born Belgian artist Louis-Marie Autissier’s self-portrait from 1817 is unusually informative in that it shows a number of the miniaturist’s tools. Along with various brushes and spatulas we see two palettes, a magnifying glass, a container of paint, a jar of gum Arabic and a glass of water. An amusing detail is that the large miniature, partly concealed under a sheet of paper on the table, is in fact the self-portrait.
