Other titlesTitle (sv): Blomsterstilleben med fruktskål och ostron Title (en): Flower Still Life with a Bowl of Fruit and Oysters

DescriptionDescription: Dewdrops and insects suggest that the bouquet is freshly picked. The painting reflects the lucrative Dutch trade in flower bulbs. The orange refers to the nation’s leader, William of Orange. The bowl could be imported Chinese porcelain or faience from Delft. In interpretations of 17th-century still lifes, oysters and fruit are often seen as symbols of fertility, while ears of grain and butterflies represent eternal life and resurrection.
