DescriptionDescription: The lion is a sketch of the planned ornament for the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Its model were the Medici lions. The architect Nicodemus Tessin had seen them in Rome in 1687 and ordered a plaster cast. Foucquet’s lions are bushier and more baroque than the models. The lions were cast in bronze in 1702-1704 and can still be found on Lejonbacken at the Palace.
