Ärkeängeln Mikael med helgonen Flor och Lavr.
Denna sentida version av temat har ingenting av de gamla ikonernas strama komposition eller långt drivna stilisering. Här finner man i stället en helt naturalistisk framställning med hästar som vattnas, som kunde vara ett utsnitt ur en samtida landskapsmålning. Mikaelsgestalten erinrar i sin rustning snarast om en hjälte i ett barockdrama.

CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
NM: scattered retouches. Yellowish varnish;
top and bottom edges bevelled; panel warped.

The naturalistic depiction of horses
being watered is reminiscent of contemporary
European landscape paint -
ing, whilst at the same time the figure
of Michael reminds one of the hero
of a Baroque drama. This type of icon
painting, with strong elements of academic
style, was mainly rooted in
