DIMENSIONS: 150 x 90 mm (pages)/162 x 99 x 34 mm (binding). NUMBER OF LEAVES: 136ff. RULING: 22 lines of text, ruled in light red. LANGUAGE: Latin SCRIPT: Gothic textura. RUBRICATION: Illuminated rubrics. Text Hours of the Virgin. Decoration There are 29 small and 4 large miniatures. There are numerous marginal decorations and architectural frames around the miniatures. The architectural cathedral frames with gothic statues are typical for Northern French art in this period. Provenance 1. Written in Northern France at the end of the 15th century. 2. Bought at Christie’s, December 9th, 1983. Exhibited 1. Stockholm, Nationalmuseum, Gyllene böcker. Nyförvärv och nyupptäckter, December 1987-March 1988. Commentary The manuscript was written at the end of the 15th century. Written for liturgical use of Le Mans and possibly made in that city. There are two main artists, one who illuminated the three large miniatures, and one who illuminated the others. The artists are followers of Jean Bourdichon.
