Portrait of a Young Woman with a Doll

Additional texteExhibition text: The woman depicted in this new acquisition for the museum is holding a doll of Apollo, has a halo and is holding a lyre in her arms, which suggests she may symbolise the art of poetry. She is very similar to the subject of a portrait by Coypel in the Louvre, believed to depict a famous actress at the Paris Opera, La Manzanelli. She also wears the same jewellery as the woman in that portrait.
