DescriptionExhibition text: Plagemann had been living in Rome for some twenty years when he realised this painting. Standing out sculpturally against the coastal landscape, a woman waits for her husband to return. Plagemann renders the sumptuousness of the traditional costume worn by the women of Nettuno, south of Rome. Genre painting? Portrait? Allegory? Trained at the Stockholm Academy and a great connoisseur of 16th-century Italian painting, the artist blurs the boundaries between traditional pictorial genres.
