DescriptionDescription: This group portrait of HM The King, HRH The Crown Princess and HRH Princess Estelle is also a representation of the order of succession. A constitutional change that took effect on 1 January 1980 introduced female alongside male succession to the throne. Since then, Sweden has had a system of absolute primogeniture, i.e. the oldest child inherits the throne regardless of gender. One consequence of this is that, in the years ahead, the country will have two reigning queens in succession.
