Additional texteExhibition text: In Grez-sur-Loing, Carl Larsson explored the principles of plein air painting in his large watercolours of rural scenes. This work shows the kitchen garden bathing in sunlight. The light is rendered so convincingly that we almost seem to share the girl’s experience of being dazzled. During his stay in France, Larsson rapidly mastered the watercolour technique that led to his breakthrough as an artist in Sweden.
