Beskrivning: Hyakinthos hette en vacker ung prins i Sparta, som Apollon blev huvudlöst förälskad i. Nakna brukade de leka och sporta tillsammans. Men även västanvinden Zefyros fattade kärlek till ynglingen. Svartsjukt blåste han en dag på Apollons diskus, så att den träffade Hyakinthos i huvudet. Apollon höll sin älskade i famnen då han förblödde och dog. Av sorg och skuldkänslor såg han till att det ur blodet på marken spirade en ny sorts blomma.

Beskrivning: Hyacinthus was a handsome young prince from Sparta with whom Apollo fell head-over-heels in love. They would play together and pursue athletics in the nude. But Zephyrus, the western wind, also fancied the young man. One day he vented his jealousy by blowing on Apollo’s discus, causing it to hit Hyacinthus on the head. Apollo embraced his beloved who died in his arms. Consumed by grief and guilt, Apollo caused a new sort of flowering plant to spring up from the blood on the ground.
