DescriptionDescription: Otto Wallgren is best known as a history painter, but also painted portraits. Here, the 10-year-old Gustafva Jacobsson wears a tartan dress, a pattern made popular by the craze for Scotland started by writers such as Walter Scott. Gustafva’s father was an immigrant German-Jewish glass cutter. She grew up in a middle-class environment and married into the Josephson family, who were well known in the arts. The artist Ernst Josephson was one of her sons.
