DescriptionDescription: Johan Adolf Sevén is regarded as a pioneer of Swedish photography. He took a master’s degree at Uppsala University in 1839 and initially made a living as a translator and a portrait painter. This image of the theologian Rogberg, a free copy of Johan Gustaf Sandberg’s portrait, shows an influence of the new technique of photography. From 1841, Sevén worked for a number of years in Stockholm as Sweden’s first professional portrait photographer.
