DescriptionDescription: Following the death of king Olaf Kyrre in 1093, the right of his son Magnus Barefoot to the Norwegian throne was disputed by the chieftain Tore in Oppland. Instead, Tore wanted his adopted son Hakon, who was Magnus’ cousin, to be declared king. The men of Oppland gathered for a council at which they chose Hakon as king of Oppland and requested that the government of Norway should be divided between him and Magnus. However, Hakon never became king and died two years later.
