DescriptionDescription: This is hardly a flattering portrait of Governor Lund, but rather a faithful representation of his actual appearance. The insignia of the Order of the Dannebrog are as important a focus as the stubbornly fixed pale-blue gaze of the sitter. As Eckersberg himself would have put it, this is an example of “Truth” – what we would today call objectivity or realism. There is a matter-of-factness about the portrait, with little exploration of feelings.
