DescriptionDescription: This portrait shows Marstrand’s two youngest daughters in the garden of the house on Rosenvænget in Roskilde which the family had moved to the year before. The painting, executed in the deft manner typical of the artist, was done in the summer of 1865, one of his most productive years. Shortly afterwards, in January 1867, the family suffered a great loss when Marstrand’s wife, Grethe, died of typhus.
