DescriptionDescription: Carl Plagemann started out as a pharmacist, but later became an artist. In Italy, he had financial problems and was tempted into painting counterfeits, but was caught. His artist friends then abandoned him. The painting of the woman selling fruits is one of the more typical depictions of Italian folklore. The character is almost artificial, but the painting is cleverly done, with a distinctly decorative effect.
