DescriptionDescription: Graphite, pen and brown ink, brown and blue wash, 119 x 154 mm. The drawing is oval, with blue wash filling out the four corners. Laid down. Numbered on the mount, in pen and brown ink, 1746 (Sparre). Mark of the Royal Collection (Lugt 1638). Mount: Intact Sparre sheet: no. 1302, with a biography of Poelenburch. This drawing seems to have nothing to do with Poelenburch, at least stylistically. It is weak, perhaps an amateur copy. There were two more drawings on Tessin’s list of 1739–42, but one of them, a nude woman in red chalk, is missing in the 1749 catalogue. It could have left the collection, but since it is not a composition it may have been moved to the figure studies, although the name of Poelenburch does not appear there. The third drawing is still present (see the following entry). Graphite, pen and brown ink, brown and blue wash, 119 x 154 mm. The drawing is oval, with blue wash filling out the four corners.
